MORNINGSIDE TUNNEL.
We have just waded through a mass of igures of the Budget, but I do not see any liotment for a long-needed improvement in iur suburban railways. Years ago we were iromised that we would have a tunnel at ilorningside that would take the line in a urve, bringing it to the present railway tation with sub-stations about Queen Street ,nd a bit further on. That would have made - great improvement to the present line, which s like a switchback railroad. This line was :lso to be taken across to Te Atatu and traighton to Kutneu. This would have taken nany miles off the run to Helensville, with ;ood grades. Surely the first class to consider s the general masses and to give them every acility of getting to their work by oifr own aihvays, for which everything can be made n thfe country. The work would make more mployment for our men here instead of sendng so much of our money awav for cars and :1 .'J. C.'HEXNERY.
