News and Gossip from Our Sunshine Clubs

Friendship (City)—A welcome gift or 26 patches from tills small club of six young people. This is a tlrst girt and puts the club quite a fair distance up the ladder.

Undaunted Union—A first girt rrom this club took the form of a big parcel of baby clothes and 32 patches.

Blue Boys (Valley Road)— Parcel of new clothes, very nicely made, was a bappy contribution from these folk.

Busy Bodies—Two pairs or babv shoes arrived for the credit or these Otahuhu School roik. * * * *

Bell Birds (St. Heller's)— Fay, a recent addition to this St. Heller's Bay club, sent the gift ror the week, 36 patches. » * * »

Blue Bell (Outpost)— The captain's girt was two dozen patches, a pair of bed socks and a pair of slippers, whilst Mary Greig sent in three beautiful little nowered winceyette bed jackets.

Black Cat—Another mystery club has found its way to Sunshine House. A big welcome to the Black Gat Club, who send a parcel or clothes' to start them on the ladder with ? points.

Blockhouse Bay Sunbeams—A line pared or 70 patches comprised the gift or the Bay Sunbeams. They will make up into a fine sing-le bed quilt. * * * * Comforters—Such a nice parcel or new emthes, 20 dainty patches and two little pairs or bed socks round its way to Sunbeam headquarters and earned a Turther 4 5 points. We welcome in two new members, Sylvia Hipwell and Joan Wood.

Cherry Pie—Lined with flannelette and made or upholstery patches, the Cherry PieS contributed a novel bed rug. The same parcel also contained three patches and two pairs of bootees, the gift of June.

Cheer Germs (Grey Lynn)—Word comes to Sunbeam headquarters of the successful meetings held by the Germs. Twenty points to-day for a parcel of clothes, and word comes of a quilt in the making-.

Busy Fingers. (New Lynn)—These rolk have indeed been busy, for a splendid bed quilt or about 100 patches, lined with lemon winceyette, as well as a gray machine knitted quilt, lined with orange, came in to cheer us all np. This was rollowed by a further 46 patches and a nlnepanny contribution to the lining fund.

Cosy Club (Remuera) —A large carton box provided us with quite a thrill. The contents were mainly nrst-class large material patchcs. But it also contained comics and toys, shoes and clothes. These folk announce that their tenth completed quilt will be sent to Sunbeam headquarters In the very near future.

Cuckoo (St. Helier's) —Ruth's gift was four patches and sixpence for the lining: fund.

Cinderella (Avondale) —The Cinderella people have had one of their usual busy weeks, with the result that we have received the following gifts:—Two splen-didly-made and lined single bed quilts, two cot blankets, three excellent cot quilts, a hot water bottle, a pair or bed socks, a petticoat, a pair of sandels, GO patches, and a big parcel or clothes. The workmanship in the quilts was of very big-h standard, girls. This club held a girt evening, attended by 30 people who all helped the club and had an enjoyable time.

The Cornwalls (preen Lane) —A new club for Green Lane. We send a warm welcome to The Cornwalls, a little group of seven girls captained by Gwen Haliday, or 5, Tawera Road. The Cornwalls include Colleen Haynes, Norma Wyatt, Pamela Rishworth, Mabel Schellack, Alison Theyers and Gwen Kelway. The Peter Pan people send all sorts or good wishes to this new club.

Cherry Circle (Remuera) —Still another club has sprung up in the Remuera district. The Cherry Circle is captained by Julie Wilson, and its members are at present unknown at Sunbeam headquarters. All good wishes to Julie and her Cherries.

Dionne (Devonport)—A big batch of new members ror the Dlonnes. The Peter Pan people send a big welcome to Graeme Corbette, Peter Corbette, Bob Darlow, William Miller, Gordon Miller, Kathleeen Darlow, June Holmes and Zoe Hunter. The first parcel came in early in the week, arid in it we found three dozen patches, some clothes and i/3 for lining.

Euston (Sandrlngham)—These folk have been very busy and sent In an unlined single bed quilt of about 100 patches.

Elves (Outpost)—Noeleen Woodham, a Mamaku member ,of the Elves, sends In nine patches. * * * *

Clematis (Onehunga)—l am certain Dallas will welcome Betty Colhoun' to the ranks or the Clematis Club. Dallas' address Is 320, Queen Street, Onehunga.

Faithful Helpers—A first gift of 19 patches, a petticoat and pullover starts these folk ofr on the ladder with 20 points. Welcome to June Ackland, who this week becomes a Faithful Helper.

Forget-me-not (Onehunga)—A nice g-irt or 17 patches, material for lining, a jumper and two caps were the gifts received this week.

Friendly (Point Chevalier) —A fine collection of clothes, baby ones given by "a friendly helper," and patches, including a good centre one, made up this week's gift.

Fireside Helpers (Morningside)—This week saw the arrival of another of the particularly fine gifts that these people make up and send In. On this occasion ■we found a package containing 120 patches, a pair of bootees, a jumper, a hug-me-tight, a fiannel shirt, a boy's coat and several sundries. Congratulations to Gloria Kent and her 14 helpers.

Golden Glory—A long silence has been broken by the arrival of a gift of 19 patches, baby clothes and lining material. Three new members brings the club's total membership to ten. A warm welcome to Audrey Coon, Ed.a #:irfoot and Joyce Parson.

Golden Stars (Avondaie)—Many thanks Tor the fine parcel of 20 patches bibs and lining material, which was foilowed by hair a dozen patches, lining materia flannels and soap, sad a toy dog S work, little people of Avondaie 0(1

Glen Tui—A bonnet and a hug-me-tiglit arrived ror the credit of this club, and for which we thank them.

Glee—Eighteen patches and a knitted cap comprised the girts Tor this week to add a further 21 points.

Goodwill—Such a nice material lining Tor no less than eight quilts arrived from Lucy (we think). This git't, together with I.ovejoy and l'enelope, two prettily dressed dolls arrived with the Goodwill l'olk when they came to visit Wendy last Saturday week. One blouse, a parcel of clothes, lining material and 30 patches ne.xt arrived, whilst a further 24 patches, a coat and a frock completed a long list of gifts opened this week.

Girl Scouts (Mount Roskill) —Work is coming in steadily from these folk now. This week's gift was in the l'orm or two big parcels of clothing, to be followed by a further two parcels of clothing and « patchwork single bed quilt. Hut this is not all. Later arrived ninepence for the lining fund and another parcel of children's clothes.

Happy Helpers (Epsom)— Welcome to Joyce Ilolbrook's new club, the Happy Helpers, whose headquarters are at Epsoin. There are live Happy Helpers, but as yet we have no record or their names.

Hoheria (Mount Albert) —A dainty lined pram quilt or 30 patches and a beret was a much appreciated girt.

Helpful Hands—A box of toys, two patches and an apron arrived from Eileen Tor the credit of this club. Eiloen's two comic books also arrived- safely, as did ten patches, slippers, cigarette cards and a small jumper.

Handy Helpers (Outpost)—"An Interested Reader" sends In 10 patches for Sylvia's club. Many thanks. Flvo patches, a knitted baby petticoat and a bail caine from Betty Kennerdy.

Haeremai (Takapuna)—We must apologise to this club for robbing thorn or CO points. In a change-over from one system or recording to another the GG was carried forward as six only. This has been rectified to-day. The parcel for tile week was 30 patches and a dear little bonnot.

Industrious Four (Outpost)— Hero Is another new club, under the captainship of Winnie McKonzle. Winnie's associates are Lesley Young- (vice-captain), Dulcle Cunning-ham and Joan Richardson. One patch, a sing-let and a beret put these newcomers on the loot ol" the ladder with 10 points.

Kowhai Elves (Mount Albert) —These folk took 100 patches and returned them made up into a really delig-litrul quilt. Somebody I know will be delig-hted when this quilt Is sent out to cover their bed.

Karaka (Takapuna)—Twenty patches, a hot water bottle and two pairs of baby shoes arrived to add to the girts from these rolk.

Kowhai Cheerful Givers (Kowhai School) Here is a new club or rour Kowhai School folk, whose llrst girt was 15 patches. We welcome I. Melhuish, the captain, and G. Probert, R. Clareburt and M. Home, and wish them all good luck.

Little Bits of Sunshine—A first girt or 90 patches arrived for the credit or this club, and has started them off on the ladder.

Mystery Girl Guides (Ponsonby)—Firty patches and a pink cot blanket comprised the gift for the week from this Ponsonby circle. We welcome to their ranks the following new members: Beryl Saunders, Bonnie Pllkington, Violet Johns, Enid Monk; Phyllis Spear, Dawn Moire and Ethel Holden.

Lavender Sunbeams (Takapuna) — A hearty welcome to this new club, which is under the leadership of Dawn Stephens. The members are Rona Jackson, Audrey Taylor, Valma Taylor, Dorren Gooder, Barbara Lyons, Marion Shaw, Vlveene Dellow, Barbara Reed, Norma Price, Margaret Ilorne and Pamela Thomson. Proor or their hard work is shown by the arrival of a parcel of a fine lined cot quilt or 35 patches and a hot water bottle.

Maahunui (Maungaturoto)—Nine patches, two singlets and three balls lifted these Maungaturoto folk a little further up the ladder.

Maungarei Club (Mount Wellington) — A dozen patches, a pair of pyjamas and a rag doll were sent in as the third contribution from this club.

Mickey Mouse (Ellerslle) —Such a lovely tangerine and fawn quilt of 50 large patches, lined with satin, popped out of the parcel first, then came two hot water bottles with knitted covers, and many excellent garments for children. Perhaps best of all was the lovely parcel Tor "Baby Bms," a complete set or woollies for a new baby.

Magpie—Seven new Magpies to register this week. We welcome in Clare Sweet, Jean Gladding, Dorothy Williams,' Eunice Patejicnt, Mary Simpson, Joyce Bull and Joan^orls. * * » #

Point Chevalier Pixies (Point Chevalier)— Welcome to the Point Chevalier I'lxles, Cora Meyer's new club or ten girls The Pixies include Edna Tynan, Vera Pike Adrlenne Meyer, Jean Porteous, Mavis BaUard, Jean Scott, Jean Stevenson, Jovce Fredrea and Dorothy Grimths. Good luck to this new club.

PixieS (Epsom)— The Pixies have all been very busy or late. Gloria and Shirley gave a little tea party to Pixie members, and with the funds raised bought threo nice hot water bottles. Geraldine and Margaret also sent us a hot water bottle, and so did Joyce. A total or 81 patches arrived Trom these busy members, as well as two sweet little baby frocks, hand embroidered, a pair ol" bed socks, two double bed quilts and one single bed one. Two or those quilts were made with splendid warehouse samples contributed by Ailsa and Peggy. Well done, Pixies.

Portland Bees (Whangarel)—A pound note last week and a further 17/6 this time.' These surprise packets are splendid, girls. The accompanying parcel was equally wonderful: Sixty patches, some lining material from Lollta and Kathleen, and a dear little pair of pink shoes rrom Heather, who has been missing from the club for many weeks now. Three new Bees to welcome to the ranks of this energetic Northland club, Yvonne Williams, Radiance Bland and Gwen Williams.

Prunella (Newmarket) —Four patches this week from Margeline Churston, which brings the Prunella Club up from its very sorrowful one point to five points. Would anyone living in the Newmarket district like to help Margeline with this club?

Rainbow (Mount Eden) —A fine parcel containing a shawl, baby clothes, slippers, hot water bottle and five patches was foltlQS'ed by 24 patches and a box of toys, worn Betty. Later a further 33 patches arrived from Katherine.

Unknown Friends (Mount Albert)— The Unknown Friends have been busy knitting, I see. Eight patches from tliern this week.

Jolly (Takanini) —The Jolly Club, which travelled all the way from Takanini on Saturday last to visit Wendy, lel't In their wake a stream or most exciting girts. Margaret Trust's patches and bootees were Ilrst on the list. Sixty-six patches, several parcels of clothes, a cot quilt, cot blanket, toys, soap and hot water bottle completed the gifts.

Patchwork (Outpost)—Lois seems to be the backbone of this club, yet this member is just a little ten-year-old. we feel that there is a kindly mother in the background. to whom we owe many thanks. Tho girt this week comprised three satinlined cot quilts, one In particularly delicately shaded in shadow tissue. Two most attractive material patchwork quilts arrived rrom the captain, together with some clothes and a hot water bottle. ,

Royal Guards (Auckland)— The honour or being the third boy to captain a Sunshine club falls to Fred, who, with his three club mates, Harold, Gordon and Allan, have rormed the Uo.val Guards. ■ The headquarters of this club is being kept a close secret, also the surnames or the I'our members. It will be Interesting to watch tho progress or the three boys' clubs now In existence—the Rlue Roys, Euston and Royal Guards. Good luck to this new club.

Rata (New Lynn)—Good news for Helen. An anonymous rriend, "Nemo," has sent in a parcel or clothes to be credited to the Rata Club. This club is the second to line the quilts which they made up from patches received from this office. The Rata's lined theirs with green satin and vietix rose silk. In addition a cretonne cot quilt, an imitation slrin baby rug, a cot blanket and children's clothes came by same delivery.

St. Helier'B Sunbeams—Half a dozen •patches, three baby singlets, a coatee, a jumper and a hot water bottle to acknow-. ledge this week. Melva Elmbranch is a new member whom we welcome to the club roll.

Star Twinklers (Mount Eden) —A pood cot lining 1 made of material squares was a helpful and useful girt, Tor which we thank this club. A welcome g-oes out to Patricia Simmons and Nan Fraser, who are now Twinklers. Just as the Budget went to press a second gift of a hot water bottle, nine patches, a frock and a little washing board toy arrived to send the points of this Mount Eden club up a further 2G.

Sunbeam Companions (Kowhai School) A beautiful bronze coloured satin pram coverlet, a quilted cot cover and ten patches made an excellent gift and earned our appreciation. * » » *

Starlets (Mount Albert)— Three patches, a scarf, a horet and a book In one parcel, and a rrock, 12 more patches and material for Mining in another. Then there was Rod's gift of two pairs of socks, a bed Jacket and a patch. And, Anally, Christine's and Heather's g-ifts of a cretonne cot quilt, a petticoat and a jumper.

Wendy's Willing Workers (Tltirangrl) — It is quite a long- time since we heard from, this club, but this week they sent in a nice collection of used but warm clothes, as well as 24 patches.

Wise Owls (Takapuna)—Vera Reeder is the captain or the second new club formed in the Takapuna area this week. With her are associated the following' helpers:—Freda Monk, Joan Davies, Joan Kidd, Sonia Ash, Jack Reeder, Ruth Monk and Elaine Mills. The first gift received with this advice was 15 patches. Willing Workers (Te Kuiti) —Because they have grown quite considerably, this club, which used to be known as Four Willing Workers, has dropped the nrst word or their name. The newcomers are Diana Morton, Doris Banfleld and Melva Nicholson. A nice parcel or good used clothes, nine books, a shilling ror the liningrund and 3 5 patches reflects the g-ood work of this club.
