ALMOST HUMAN.
A fire alarm which almost thinks is to replace the familar box in the London I Fire Brigade area. It watches itself,' instantly reporting all electrical defects and automatically repairing them. If a fire-alarm box and pillar are accidentally felled, the brigade i.s not turned out, as now. The box reports the injury to the station. Within three seconds of operation, this is what happens at the fire station:—Box code number punched in a tape, timed and dated; location appears in luminous letters on a panel; all station bells ring, doors open for departure of engines; traffic lights, except those on fire engines' route, set at danger; stop-watch ticks out fractions of seconds till the first fire engine to respond stops it.
