STREET IMPROVEMENT
MORRINSVILLE SCHEME,
LOAN TO BE SOUGHT,
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
MORRINSVILLE, , Friday.
A decision to seek the sanction of the Loans Board to raise a loan of £10,000 for street and footpath improvements, was made at last evening's meeting of the Morrinsville Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr. W. T. Osborne, explained that it was evident that the streets were wearing out, and the borough would be faced with considerable expenditure before long.
Estimates supplied by Mr. B. H. Horner, consulting engineer, showed that the tar-sealing of 234 chains of streets will cost about £3700; the paying of 630 chains of footpaths an expenditure of £2600; and kerbing and channelling £4400; making a total of £10,700. This estimate did not take into consideration the subsidy on labour recently offered by the Labour Department, which it is considered will mean a considerable reduction in the cost of the work. The council's works programme also includes improvements to the recreation ground, and it is hoped that financial support for the scheme will be received from the polo club and other sports bodies. A certain amount will also be required to improve the stock routes.
The council instructed the works committee to draw up a schedule of work to be carried out.
