WAITAKERE SCHEME.
NEARLY £11,000 IN SIGHT.
LOCAL BODIES FAVOURABLE,
The Waitakere Ridge drive scheme has met with general support from the Auckland local bodies, and of the contributions amounting to £14,500 required towardsHhe total cost of £(>3,000, nearly £11,000 is already in sight.
A list of the allocations is given below, the bodies which have approved the scheme being marked by asterisks: Auckland City, *£7077; Mount Eden, *£1059; Mount Albert, *£1058; Waitemata County, £007; Manukau County, £006; Oneliunga, *£580; Devonport, £552; One Tree Hill, *£500; Takapuna, £411; Mount Roskill, *£380; Otahuhu, £250; Newmarket, *£230; Birkenhead, £175; New Lynn, £154; Ellerslie, £144; Papatoetoe, £128; Northcote, £120; Mount Wellington, £120; Glen Eden, £04; Helensville, £47; How r ick, £37; Panmure, £17.
The Birkenhead Borough Council and Papatoetoe Town Board have decided not to contribute, but general support of the scheme is anticipated.
It is regarded as almost certain that the proposal will be undertaken. It will give work to hundreds of men in the western districts. It is proposed that they should go to and from their work, and not leave their homes.
