TO-DAY IN SYDNEY. The feature of the list of sales on the Sydney Stock Exchange this morning was the 6harp rise in G. J. Coles, which sold at £4 4/6, a rise of 2/3 on the last sale yesterday. Tooths Brewery are steady, while Broken Hill (con.) sold a shade easier at £2 15/3.. This morning's sales:—Government bonds, 4 per cent, 1938, £102 3/9; 1911, £102; 1944, £102 2/6; 1955, £101 5/; Australian Gas A, £7 10/6; Tooths, £2 13/9; Anthonv Hordern, 19/; Australian Glass, £4 12/3; Broken Hill Pty. (con.), £2 15/3; Dunlop, Perdriau, 18/3; Fairymead Sugar, £1 13/9; G. J. Coles, £4 4/6. YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS. SYDNEY, August 14. Business in the investment market on the Sydney Stock Exchange to-day was inclined to be quiet. Kecent price levels were generally maintained. British Tobacco strengthened, while G. J: Coles were actively traded. Sales included:—Bank of New South Wales, £33 7/6; Commercial Bank of Australia, 18/3; National Bank (£lO paid), £14; Bank of New Zealand, £1 19/9; Union Bank, £9 10/; Tooth's, £2 13/9; Australian Glass, £4 12/; Australian Iron and Steel (pref.), £1 5/9; British Tobacco, £2 1/6; Broken Hill Proprietary, £3 15/6, £3 15/2; G. On the Melbourne market there was a good demand for industrials and strong buying of Barrier stocks on account of the higher metal prices. Gold mining was unchanged.
