j CERTIFICATES PRESENTED. j , ; MAYORESS COMMENDS SPORT. ' The Mayoress. Mrs. Ernest Davis, yes- ' terday commended swimming as a healthy ; exercise when addressing pupils of the Kohimarama school jirior to distributing pennants and certificates gained in races conducted by the Eastern Suburbs AinaT teur Swimming and Life-saving Club. The 1 Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, is patron of the club. Mrs. Davis Said she hoped that some of the children would develop into } Annette Kellermans, and attain skill of the ' degree that made possible such feats as j swimming the English Channel. The chairman of the Eastern Suburbs i Club, Mr. A. .T; Wh.yte, said that, while j all the children could swim, the club was providing them with coaching that would [ enable them to become more competent. He 5 referred to the performances registered at ■ the Olympic Games as instances of the t skill reached in swimming. 1 Pennants for winning races were pref sented 'by Mrs. Davis to lan Stanton. 1 Robert Stanton. Graeme Jackson, Shirley .. Soper, Leonie Blackett and Lois Sopor, and 1 certificates for runners-up to Alfred Neal. G. Bady, Robert Stanton, Marjorie Kemp [ and Jean Clark.
