OLD SWIMMER'S FEAT.
THAMES RIVER EFFORT,

LONDON, August 6.
A noted English gwimmer in his day, Mr. Holbein, who is now 75 years old, last evening swam the Thames from Richmond Lock to London Bridge, a distance of 18 miles, in 5i hours.
Mr. Holbein has many notable river swims to his credit, and he has made nine attempts to swim the Channel. His last attempt, which was made on his 52nd birthday, was the nearest to success, when he gave up within 500 yards of Dover.
