POLICE BEAT NAVY,
I At Eden Park yesterday afternoon, before n fairly large crowd, the Police defeated Navy in the iinnl match of the Public Services' mid-week competition. In the opening stages tile game was very closely contested, and at half-time the Police led S 0, tries by Lilley and Duncan (one converted by Roddick) to a try by McKean and a penalty goal by Waters. In tiie second half the Police rearguard showed excellent combination and in quick succession tries were obtained by Hotham (2). Fowler and Lane. Navy started a stern chase and Torp.v got a try and Waters a goal, but tiie I'ollce still hud a shot in the locker and in tiie closing minutes Hotliam scored li is third try. Police won by 23 points to 14. Mr. 11. Frost, president of the union, presented the Kohn Cup to C. Lane, the Police captain, and commented on the excellent standard of play in the finnl game. As a curtain-raiser to tiie match Air Force i.i, ine Army by 14 points to 12.
