TRIALS. AT ELLERSLIE. VALSPEAR GOES WELL. FLEETWIND ALSO IMPRESSES. Weather conditions were perfect this morning for training at Ellerslie and there was a fair amount of galloping, while several horses were schooled. No. 2 grass track, with the poles 10ft out, was in use and the going was better than it has been for some weeks. King Ara, Haputale and Zane Grey got lo the end of five furlongs in 1.10 2-5 They ran the first two in 25 l-os and King Ara was doing best at the finish Rereatu was allotted a similar task, which occupied 1.9 4-5. He ran the first two in 26 4-5s and was doing it comfortably at the end. Speedfast was also sent five furlongs, which he covered in 1.9 3-5 Tybalt was going better than Salvar at the end of three furlongs in 41. l-ss. Solas, after running her first three furlongs in 395, was timed to complete six in 1.21 3-5. She did her work nicely. Fleetwind ran home from the half-mile post in 53 2-ss—a useful effort. Knight of Australia traversed a round in 1,49 4-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.23 1-5. Over a similar distance Teddy Boy and Jewelled Girdle registered 1.50, the last six furlongs taking 1.23 4-5. Lady Diana was going comfortably while traversing half a mile in 55 4-ss. Versant 1 Worked with plenty of dash over a round, which took 1.4G 3-5. Ho ran the last six furlongs in 1.20 3-5 and the final half mile in 54 4-ss. This was a fairly good gallop. After Breakfast. Carslialton got to the end of five furlongs in 1.8 1-5, which was an improvement on liis previous efforts. Caliente did strong work over a round, taking 44 2-5s for her last three furlongs. Lord Val was not bustled while covering half a mile in 57 2-ss, and Trevace ran a similar distance easily in 56 2-ss. Valmint, after taking 41 l-5s fov three furlongs, completed six in 02 2-5. 'This hack" is' looking in nice order. Master Brierly strode over a round, which he finished by running three furlongs in 42 2-ss. Etama and Lone Flier were together over half a mile, which occupied 565. They were not bustled. Horowhenua was under restraint while traversing a round in 1.58 1-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.27 4-5. Huntsman's Chorus finished in front of the Vaals—Country Air gelding over five furlongs, which took 1.8 3-5. The best half mile of the morning was credited to Valspear, Te Hai and Gar Vaals, who were timed to run the distance in 51 l-ss. They were bunched at the finish, with Valspear a shade in front, v, Mountain. Breeze ran home from the half-mile post in 55 4-ss. She began fast, but was stopping a bit at the finish. Topley Street sprinted three furlongs in 39 2-5s and Hope Lass completed a similar task in 39 4-ss. Whirlmint covered a round easily in 1.55, the last six furlongs taking 126 Valise got to the end of six fur-: longs in 1.21 4-5 after covering the first three in 39 3-ss. She did her work well and had a bit in reserve. Others to do useful work were Armacourt. Kilonsoa, Persian Lady, Royal Appellant, Gay Defence, Gay Princess and Electric Flash. Ttie Jumpers. United (Wilkinson) was sent over sir schooling Hurdles in the centre anik^q., got through his task in a satisfactory;manner. Zane Grey (Lardner) and Royal Chips (Turvey) were schooled over the steeplechase fences on the flat twice, and made no mistakes. Royal Chips had previously been schooled over two hurdles and cleared them safely, though she jumpect high. She shaped better oyer the big fences and should develop into a good jumper with experience.
