BIG AUGUST ISSUE. Many interesting features are contained in the August issue of the "Railways' Magazine." James Cowan, whose "Famous New Zealanders" are .a regular feature of the magazine, brightly sketches dramatic career, sunny personality and human ideals of tlie Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage; "Robin Hyde" writes of happy days in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty, and Mr. Ken Alexander serves some merry philosophy in "The Wife and the Wherefore." "The Thirteenth Clue," a mysterious mix mp, is taken on another stage by Mr. C. A. L. Tread well in a thrilling narrative. Many people in cities and towns should be interested in Mr. 0. N. Gillespie's wellwritten claim for Wellington that it is a "paradise for poets and painters" and the "world's prettiest capital city." The two pages of original verse are worthy of special praise as impressive additions to New Zealand literature. Mr. R. M. Jenkins continues interestingly with his "Limited Night Entertainments," while Mr.' W. F. Ingram lias another excellent serving of "Panorama of the Playground.' The women's section maintains its high standard of helpfulness in and out of the home. Other features, including notes and comments on books and authors, a cheerful story for children by Sheila Russell and a chronicle of Maori wisdomshould help to maintain the magazine's popularity.
