FIRESIDE PUZZLE RESULTS.

Rule 4 Broken Repeatedly. That a little extra care on the part of competitors brings its own reward, was proved by the results of Word Oblong No. 2. The constructing of a word oblong is a fascinating hobby for winter evenings and has proved a popular one with readers. There were, however, still a number of entrants who disregarded the important fact, as mentioned in last week's critique, that words must not be placed in the squares reserved for "points down." We again remind competitors that a word oblong must contain five letters across and fcur down, the remaining set of squares across being used for the totals of "points down-" Words such as "ogham" and "jingo" are still of frequent occurrence, despite the provisions of Rule 4. D. Dreyer, with a corrected list of 2074, scored first place. Don Kessell and Llewellyn Hull following with 2034 and 2033 respectively. The following were awarded "choose-your-own" prizes:— D. A.
