WAITEMATA GARDENS.
MEETING OF SOCIETY. The president, Mr.- J. L. Hanna, who presided last night" at the meeting of the Waitomata Horticultural Society in the Buffalo Hall at Birkenhead, gave an address on "Landscape Gardening." Tn connection with the society's first spring show, to be hold on September 4 and 5, Mr. D. P. O'Leary was appointed show secretary and Mr. A. E. Harding assistant secretary.
The second competition among members for vegetables, fruit, cut flowers, table decorations and pot plants was judged by Mr. D. P. O'Leary, whose awards, out of a possible aggregate of ten points, were: Mesdames A. E. Henley, J.' Prickett, Stanley Mills. C. M. Burton, A. Harrison, A. li. Shutes, N. J. Campbell, Dr. C. W. Parr, Mr. A. E. Harding, eight points each; Mi's. W. G. Frith, Miss Oeddcs, seven points; Mesdames J. L. Hanna, 11. N. Leefe, J. Major, J. Prescott, Mr. H. N. Leefe, six points; Mesdames D. P. O'Leary, F. G. Blackwell, J. Barrott, J. Cole, ,T. C. Williams, 2ST. R. Stewart, five points. The exhibits are,sold to augment the funds. An exchange system was inaugurated, surplus cuttings, plants and seeds being brought by members to be taken away by other members who could utilise them.
