ON MONDAY WEEK.

CANTERBURY RUGBY GAME. A MEMORY OF 1007. The first information that the Auck-land-Canterbury Rugby match had been postponed was contained in a telegram received by the Auckland Rugby Union this morning. As stated in the Press Association report from Christchurch, the match will now be played on Monday, August 10. It is not often a Rugby msich is postponed in New Zealand, partiHilarly When a visiting side is competing. At Wellington, however, in 1907 the Tara-naki-Wellington game was abandoned at half-time, with the home side leading 3 —o. There were exciting scenes when tho teams did not reappear after the interval, and the few hundred spectators, nearly all of whom had to take shelter in the grandstand from the howling southerly, created several scenes.

On the same day the final of the intercollegiate tournament, between Christ's College and Wanganui Collegiate School, both of whom had beaten Wellington College, had a similar fate. H, M. Chrystal and Lionel Hitchings, the captains, came back alone to the waterlogged field at Miramar (whither the contest had been transferred from the College ground, at Sussex Square) to notify the almost frozen referee that they were satisfied to call it "all .square," neither side having scored. D. J?. Bedell-Sivright, the famous Scottish captain and forward, had two extraordinary experiences. He led Britain against Canterbury and Westland in 1904 at Lancaster Park, when the snow had been swept off the field before the game could be started. The Britons won 5 —3, a try by Sivright, converted by Percy Bush, the Welshman, to an unconverted try by Bob Deans, who was to renew acquaintanceship with the Cardiff skipper under sensational circumstances next year. That same British season when the All Blacks beat Scotland 12—7 at Inverleith, snow had again to be swept off the field before Sivright could take his Scots on to the field of play.
