OPINIONS IN AUCKLAND.
PREDICTION" "AMBITIOUS."
Commenting on the message from New Plymouth, various of the leading local puxluce dealers said that any prediction of price movements beyond September was decidedly ambitious. They agreed that the price would probably be firm up to that date. After that, although it seemed that the British consumers' increased demand would con•tinue, the climatic conditions in the producing countries were also a big factor.
The latest reports from Australia, for instance, indicate that welcome rain has changed the situation there. Up to the present the season has been backward, but now, it is stated, prospects are good for a better season than last year. Should these prospects be realised, and the New Zealand season also be a good one, said one of the dealers approached, he would not anticipate any rise after September. If America came on the market, however, the position would be much more favourable. The whole question, he added, was a matter for conjecture, not for prophecy.
