LOOK, BUT DON'T SEE.

A remarkable illustration of the way in which we look and don't see, is provided by clocks and watches which use the Roman numerals on the dial. Ask anybody to write the figures, and the chances are a hundred to "one —unless he has been forewarned—that he cannot do it accurately; he will write I, 11, 111, IV, V. VI, and so on. What is wrong? The fourth in the series is always 1111, not IV. It is strange that we continue looking through a life-time, and never see what is staring us in the face' until somebody directs our attention to it.
