THE CHECKER TAXICAB COMPANY OF NEW ZEALAND, LIMITED. An announcement appearing in the daily press contains a statement implying that Checker Taxicabs is applying, or intends to apply, to the Auckland City Council for an increase in the Schedule of existing taxicab fares. This has no foundation of fact, and Checker Taxicabs desires to give it till emphatic denial. This company has made no application for an increase in fares, nor does it intend to do so. Checker Taxicabs takes strong exception to the statement, since its effect must be to discredit this organisation in the eyes of the public. So far as can be learned,l the only application to increase fares made to the Auckland City Council, since the By-law fixing fares came into operation in December of 1935, was that made by The Atta Taxi Company, which was declined, on July 20 last. Checker Taxicabs is still operating and will continue to operate under the Schedule of fares as fixed by the Auckland City Council in December last. CHECKER TAXICABS.
