ORAKEI MODEL YACHT CLUB.

PRESENTATION OF PHIZES. The eighth annual presentation of prizes won during the past season of the Orakei Basin Model Yacht Club, took place in the Returned Soldiers' Hall, Green Lane, on Wednesday evening, in the presence of a large gathering of senior and junior members and friends, also representatives of the Ponsonby. Manukau. and Point Chevalier Model, and Taniakl Yacht Clubs. Mr. A. Bevins, president of the club, welcomed the visitors, and expressed his pleasure at the large attendance. The club was now in its eighth year, and the past season had been the best. Mr. A. It. Bevins, commodore of the club, thanked the donors of prizes and all who had assisted during the year. He apologised for the absence of the patron, j5Cr. Ernest Davis, who was on a holiday, but sent best wishes for a pleasant evening. Mr. Kevins said that races were held every Saturday afternoon, from I>aboiir Day until Easter, except for a break at Christmas. The racing was very closely contested both in the senior and junior sections, there being several ties for points prizes. Mr. Bevins thanked Mr. Roy McKay, club captain, Mr. T. Betterton, who liad charge of the juniors, and Mr. Jas. Ross, lion, secretary, for their good work on behalf of the club. Membership had increased to 50 active members, each with their own models. The club had 10 dinghies for their use, and the clubhouse had been enlarged during the year. Mr. Bevins concluded by reminding members that the best way to assist was by competing regularly in the races, and playing lii" game. The prizes were displayed in the hall, and attracted much attention. They included the Jensen Shield and 67 other trophies, of which -13 were cups. Dr. .T. W. Craven, vice-patron, before presenting the prizes, congratulated Mr. Bevins and members on the continued success of the club. The sport of model sailing was a good one, he said, and laid the foundation for the senior sport of yachting, which with football and cricket were the best outdoor sports. He thought ninny Auckland boys had a touch of salt water in their veins. Possibly they came from the old sea dogs who had done so much for the Empire in the past.

Mr. Roy McKay, on behalf of members of the committee, presented Mrs. A. R. Bevins with a handsome mirror as a token of appreciation of her work in providing refreshments every Saturday, with the help of the ladies' committee. Mr. Bevins suitably acknowledged the gift on behalf of his wife. A vote of thanks to Dr. Craven and tlio Press concluded the business, after which supper was dispensed by the ladies. A number of musical items were rendered during the evening, and sleight-of-hand exhibitions were given by Mr. R. H. F. GriLce.
