CITY RATES INCREASED.
EFFECT OF LABOUR LAWS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The City Council to-day rescinded its resolution relating to the estimates for the current year and approved fresh estimates, which provide for an additional £11,000 in the contingencies item to meet the additional costs which follow the introduction of the 40-hour week and other conditions under the new industrial legislation. The council also approved of rates to yield £530,092 and an increase of 7-16 d in the pound.
