SCIENCE CONGRESS.
FIRST DOMINION MEETING. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. Particular interest is attached to the twenty-third gathering of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science in January next year, for it will take place in- Auckland and will mark the first occasion on which it has been held in the Dominion. A circular which has been issued by the society gives particulars of executive appointments which have been made. The office holders have been drawn from all over Australia and New Zealand from universities, museums, scientific institutes, libraries, Government Departments and professions. Lord Gowrie, Governor-General of Australia, and Lord Galway, GovernorGeneral of New Zealand, are the patrons. The president is Sir Douglas Mawson, and the president-elect Sir David Rivett, of the Commonwealth Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. Local honorary officers for the Auckland conference are Professor C. Coleridge, and Mr. Gilbert Archey, secretaries, and Mr. A. T. Prycroft, treasurer. Some Notable Men. Hytten, Bank of New South Wales, Sydney; engineering and architecture, Sir Henry Barraclough, University of Sydney; medical science and national health, Dr. A. R. Southwood, chairman of the Central Board of Health, Adelaide; education, psychology and philosophy, Professor Alexander Gunn, University of Melbourne; agriculture and forestry, Professor J. A. Prescott, Waite Agricultural Research Institute, South Australia; veterinary science, Dr. J. A.
