WOMAN GIVEN LAST CHANCE,
STOLEN FUR COAT
"You have quite a number of previous convictions and it its only on account of your baby that I am giving you this last chance and am not sending you to prison for this offence," Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., told Margaret Ann Hansen, aged 39, who came before him in the Police Court to-day and admitted the theft of a fur coat "valued at £20 on April 13.
Senior Detective Hall said the coat was Stolen from the wardrobe of a bedroom ill a city private hotel and sold on April' 17 to a dealer by accused, who gave- a fictitious name and address. On June 19, when seen by Detective R. Waterson, Hansen admitted stealing the coat. She was divorced from her husband and was living with another man. Adjutant Hope Hart, probation officer, said Mrs. Hansen had a 4J-niontli-old baby and said she intended to get married again shortly.
Hanson was convicted and ordered to make restitution of £2 10/, and to come up for sentence if called upon at any time within two years. If she offended again during that period, said the magistrate, she would be sent to prison for the maximum term.
