TAKAPUNA FINANCES
BURDEN OF INTEREST. Estimates for the current year were approved at the meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council last evening. It v. as decided to strike a consolidated loan of 1/ in the £ 011 the unimproved value, the same as last year, and this is estimated to produce £33.000. The borough's debit balance, brought forward at the end of the last financial year, was £23,079, and the statement of receipts anjj expenditure estimates that this will be reduced to £10,829 at the end of the present financial year. Apart from rates, petrol tax ( £1000) is the only appreciable source of revenue. On the expenditure side the borough is faced with interest and sinking funds 011 loans which amounts to £22,315. The hospital levy is £2095. Capital expenditure contemplated amounts to £5248, this amount being made up with new street formation, bus stop sealing, road haunches, kerbing and channeling, sewer cleaning arid extension, and water main extensions. General street maintenaee is estimated at £4000, and street lighting £1150. ' It was decided to allow a rebate of 5 per cent for the prompt payment of rates.
