EPSOM TRIALS

TRAVIS GOES WELL. LUCKY LOVE IMPROVED. Although recent rain had left the track heavy, the course proper, with the poles 50ft out, was available for fast work at Epsom this morning. The times naturally were slow, but several interesting work* outs were provided. Tangaroa was first out and he was not unduly bustled to run a mile and a quarter in 3.27, the last half-mile taking 1.17. The novice handled the soft track well. Travis revelled in a dash over a mile and a quarter, which occupied 3.8, easily the best of the morning over the distance. He came home over the last half" mile in 1.12 and moved attractively. Travis is working in great style and should collect some of the prize money at the Auckland meeting. Lucky Love got to the end of a mile and a half in 3.47 and was going nicely to register 1.10 4-5 for the final four furlongs. Lucky Love has built up well as the result of a spell and is looking a much-improved horse. Guid Hairst was allotted a mile and a half and completed his tajik in 3.52, the last half-mile in 1.12. He was not unduly bustled. Audo Patch and Auto Machine were never at top to cover two miles in 5.26, but came home the final four furlongs in 1.13. Audo Patch is working in fine style and is staying on better than formerly. Auto Machine infused a lot of dash into the workout and showed no effects of his fall on Saturday. Bedford finished in front of Mountain Sun over a mile and a half in 4.4, the last half-mile taking 1.16. Bedford went well, but there was not much pace on. Charteris Bay and Student Prince were companions in an essay over a mile and a half, the former finishing in front in 4.1. the last half-mile taking 1.16. Stargum geat Pink Lady home froift the mile and a quarter post in 3.14, the last half-mile occupying 1.18. Nothing is working better at Epsom than Stargum and he should go well at the Auckland meeting.
