IMPORTED WHEAT.
AUSTRALIAN SHIPMENT. A shipment of about 4000 tons of lias been imported by the Govern®ei\t from Australia to supply Auckland mills, and has been landed here by the Kairanga. The action of the Government in taking this step has been commented on by reason of the prohibition issued in February. It is explained, however, that inclement weather at harvest time damaged the Canterbury wheat crop to such an extent that it has not been practicable to maintain full supplies of the standard necessary for milling. For this reason it was considered advisable to arrange for a percentage of Australian flour to strengthen the New Zealand product, and the imported wheat is to be ground locally with, that object.
