RACING AT WANGANUI.
THE WINTER MEETING. PROSPECTS OF eMIDIAN. ' (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Saturday. After winning at Foxtori, Reipar was/ lame, and it appeared likely he would be off the scene for sonic time. However, he was blistered, and as a result appears to have made a good recovery. The Greyspear_ gelding was given easy work this morning, find moved freely. Reipar won so well at Foxton that he looked likely to pick up . more stake money at Wanganui, but owing to his lameness he was not nominated. However, if he goes on all right he will not be long in again getting on the winning list. The rising two-year-old filly by Arausio — Marion's Birthday, in W. H. Dwyer's stable, has grown into a nice looking youngster. She moves in attractive style, and appears likely to prove useful. The local tracks are in splendid order, and the going at 'the Wanganui winter meeting, which opens on Saturday next, should be excellent. Though the nominations were not up to expectations the fields promise to be of good size. Midian, the topweight in the Winter Oats, is also engaged in the Empire Handicap. He looks to bo near his best again, and his track work suggests he will be hard to beat in whichever event he starts. This morning he went five furlongs on the outside of the course proper, in company with Peter Jackson, the latter finishing a couple of lengths in front in 1.5 1-5. However, Midian always does much better in a race than on the tracks, and lie will 'be worth watching at Wanganui. San Hedrin and Tupeotu were associated in a five-furlong spin on No. 1 track. The former jumped away with a good break, and he finished a couple of lengths in front in 1.3' As. He is a rising four-year-old. gelding by Chief Ruler from Bent, who was a good performer. San Hedrin is to make liis first public appearance in the Borough Hack Handicap next Saturday. He is a good looking sort, and with experience is likely to win a race or two for Mr. F. Bristol. It is unlikely Indefinite will be seen out at Wanganui, as he has abbatd t knee, caused by getting into a boxthorn hedge. Another doubtful runner is Debut, who is said to bo showing signs of lameness He was jumping well, and was cxnected to make a good showing in the Grandstand Steeplechase. . . Mr. B. La Pouple intends bringing Co'fowa to Wanganui on Friday; The Mint Leaf gelding has been showing steady improvement of late, and he should be handy in his engagements, which include the Champion Hack Race.
