Germany Leads Ireland in European Semi-Final. CRAMM AND HENKEL TOO GOOD (Received 10.30 a.m.) BERLIN, June 12. Results of first two singles in the Davis Cup semi-final of the European zone:— G. von Cramm beat G. "Lyttleton Rogers, o—l, C—2, C —3. H. Henkel beat T. G. McVeagli, G—l, B—o, C—2. - Yugoslavia, who beat France, meets Austria in the other semi-final. Australia, winner of the American zone, plays the European champion on July 18, 20, and 21; the ultimate victor challenging Great Britain for the C£up on July 25, 27 and 28.
HELEN JACOBS LOSES. BEATEN IN WIGHTMAN CUP. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, June 12. In the women's international lawn tennis match for the Wight man Cup, Miss Katlierine Stammers (Britain) beat Miss Helen Jacobs (U.S.A.), 12—10, C—l. "Miss Dorothy Round (Britain) beat Mrs. Marshal Fabyan (nee Miss Sarah Palfrey), C—3, 6—4. In the first doubles rubber Miss Carolin Babcock and Mrs. J. van Ryn (U.S.A.) beat Misses E. M. Dearman and N. M. Lvle (Britain), C —2, I—o, o—3.
Helen Jacobs hns been four times in the final of the British women's championship. Last year she needed only one point when leading 5 —4 to beat Mrs. Wills-Moody, but the latter saved the game and eventually won it 7 —5, and the match. After being down 2—5 'at one stage of the final set Katherine Stammers, who recently won the British hard-court final against Senorita Lizana (Chile), 7—5, 7—5, was put out of the Wimbledon tourney last year by Mrs. Sperling (formerly Fraulein Krawhinkel, the 1931 runner-up), also 7 —5, 7 —5. Helen Jacobs then beat the latter C —3, 6—o.
