GALOPEDE.

MISS M. BLACKBURNE Presents—

THIS is a simple dance with which to begin our winter work, but I will not promise to give you such easy work next week. is a dance of the "longways" variety, you will perhaps think that it is a kind of first cousin to "Brighton Camp." Any number of couples can take part in it. Both dances belong to what is known as the whole-

set" type, which means that the progressive of the dance is effected by the transfer of the "top" couple to the "bottom of the set during the dancing of each successive round. FORMATION. Form in & double column; when facing the top the woman is on the right side and the man on the left. At the commencement of the movement partners face each with a space of at least six paces between the lines.

MOVEMENT I.—Music 1, Bars 1-2: All advance towards each other, three paces, and bow and curtsy on the 4th count. See photograph No. 1 Bars 3-4: Return to places, moving backwards, three paces, bring feet together' on the 4th count. Bars 5-6: All now cross over, changing sides, each keeping to the left (our footpath rule). Bars 7-8: All partners turn to face .each other. Music 1, Bars 1-8: Repeat both music and movements of the previous eight bars, except that when crossing, partners pass keeping to the right. Men and women will now all be on their own sides. Use a running step for all this.

MOVEMENT 2. Bars 1-8: All couples now join both hands, right in partner's, left, and left in right, and, leaning well away from each other, revolve round clockwise for seven bars, finishing in their own places with a bow at the Bth bar. Couples may leave the general line of the "set" during the "swing" (see photograph No. 2) so as not to obstruct one another, but all must be in correct lines at the last bar. The step which suits best is a modified polka, viz.: Left right left, pause, right left right, pause, etc. . MOVEMENT 3.—Music 3, Bars 1-8: The "top" couple now "swing" with the same grasp of hands as in the last movement, from the "top" to the "bottom" of the "set," moving down the centre space between the lines. Just before they reach the place below the bottom couple all move up one place so that the 2nd pair, now the top" couple, are in the same position as the original top. The step used is the same as in the previous movement. NOTE I.—You will recognise that the 2nd movement of this dance is identical with the 3rd in "Brighton Camp," and the 3rd movement of "Galopede" is the same as the 2nd in the former dance NOTE 2. —It is recorder on H.M.V. No. 85071.
