WHEEL AND WHOA.

The motorist seemed contemptuous of the pedestrian, who was expected to lie a machine. He had to have his wits about him; he had to look where lie was going; he was such a. dullard that when he stepped out on to the road lie had to look to see if a car was coming from the front or the rear. A human being has a right to be a human being. It is the duty of a motorist to have control over his car when a human being does step to the right or left because he is dreaming about something—the human being who does not dream is generally in his coffin. —Mr. Lee, M.P. My soul is sad, and my heart is gloom, Oil, I am an injured man ! For the earth is full i>f my ruthless foe, The ruddy ped-es-tri-an ; He's a creeping horror, an ambling fright, The blighter lias no horse-power, Why, ilash it, there's not a ped-es-tri-an Who can run sixty miles an hour. Hopping about like a crow on stilts, Oozing as slow as mud, Using my roads as if they belonged To the man on his feet s'blood ! Cussed lie the joker who lacks the speed Of my Leaping Liza car, Dash lie the sex-a-gen nr-i-an Who can't leap over a twelve foot bar. Kiddies cluttering up our roads. Grannies go hobbling by. Farsons forget to bring out their wings, Won't even learn to fly! Nasty to kill 'em—-of course it Is, Messy for me? too true! But if these pedestrians use my roads, What over's a man to do? There was I!ix who was smashed At the Bight of Way, And Fix who was killed at the woad, And .Tix who was maimed at ten cross roads While wheeling a liarrow-loavl, Old Mix was dismembered at Corner Place By Happy Jim's Big Vee Four, And why? Well, none of the silly goods Could do more than twelve per hour ! Why not keep in concrete bins, . Fastened with ball and chain 'Till our sacred rights are understood. And we hold our earth again? Whv not wire-net the blighters in (Wouldn't it lie a MTcamVi If it really happened and tills tall tale Was not a petrolier's dream! —C.J.
