RUGBY FOOTBALL.
DISSATISFIED REFEREES. POSITION" AT DARGAVILLE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. A special meeting of the Northern Wairoa Referees' Association was held last night to discuss action with regard to the local Rugby Union's decision not to deal further with a spectator reported and ordered off the ground by a referee, who considered the man had used an offensive epithet to him. The referee in question, Mr. A. 11. Vennell, intimated that he was resigning. After a deal of discussion round the point of how far the union was morally bound to support the referees, it was decided to send Messrs. Dickson and McCracken as a deputation to the union on the subject and to carry on as referees meantime. A motion to decline to referee matches until assured of the union's whole-hearted support was not carried.
