COSTUME DANCE.
FUNCTION AT TAKAPUNA,
Another enjoyable evening was spent in the Band Hall, Taharoto Road, Takapuna, on Wednesday, when a "hard-up costume" dance was held under the auspices of the new social committee for band funds. The band's orchestra, under the capable leadership of Mr. B. J. Findlay (piano), with Messrs. L. Holland (saxophone), Sijl. McXair (violin) and P. Swanbeck (drums/ and effects), rendered a lively and spirited programme of dance melodies. Miss E. Perry won the ladies' best "hard-up" prize with a dress made completely of patches, and Mr. Geo. Barter won the gentlemen's best "hard-up" prize as a swagger "down on his luck," complete with swag and billy. Hie Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr. G.- Barter and Miss Hogan. A competition was won by Miss A. Butler.
