WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION.
ACTIVITIES AT BIRKENHEAD.
Donations of five guineas to the fund for the widows of the late airmen, Squadron Leader C. M. McGregor and Mr. "Scotty" Fraser, and of two guineas for the Society for the Protection of Women and Children were made at the monthly meeting of the Birkenhead Women's Association, at which the president, Mrs. Georgo Mills, Mayoress of Birkenhead, occupied the chair. A vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs. G. R. Hutchinson. In the absence of the secretary the secretarial duties were undertaken by Mrs. A. E. Wood. The bring-and-buy stall was in charge of Mrs. G. B. Ilewson, who was assisted by Mcsdames Hadwick and W. G. Frith. Mrs. W. Ilubball, the secretary, reported the activities of the dramatic circle and Mrs. N. J. Campbell detailed the work done in the district by the Plunket Society, the president of the Northcote committee, Mrs. A. Campbell, also conveying thanks to members for assistanco at the annual Plunket ball.
A resolution was unanimously carried requesting the Government to construct a bridge over the Waitemata Harbour and to operate such without tolls as an essential link with the national highway.
A number of members of the Women's Progress Club of the Higher Thought Centre were present, and an orchestra, comprising the president, Mrs. C. Dickens (piano), Misses Oberg (violin), Pilkington ('cello) and Mrs. Goldie (double bass), played several enjoyable selections. The secretary, Mrs. Pascoe, gave a talk on home life. Mrs. J. Letcher also played pianoforte solos. The musical programme was arranged by Mrs. J. Prentice.
