CONTROL OF WATERSHEDS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, tliis clay. National ownership of the main watersheds of the troublesome rivers was advocated by a deputation that waited upon the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, to-day. The spokesmen for the deputation referred to the damage caused by flooding and erosion as a result of the denudation of the steep hill country. Sympathetic consideration of the representations was promised by Mr. Langstone, who said the Government was fully seized with the importance of the preservation of the bush on high country. The deputation was representative of local bodies in Wellington, and the New Zealand Forestry League.
Mr. Cyril George Payne, mechanic, of To Awamutu, suffered a painful injury to the left eye through being struck by a rivet when working in a garage yesterday morning. Ho was brought to Auckland for treatment and was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, but his condition is not serious.
