CYCLIST KILLED.
COMPANION INJURED. STRUCK BY MOTOR CAR? a CAME STRAIGHT AT US." (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Two motor cyclists, one of whom was dead, were found lying 011 the road at Onkura last evening. It is believed that they were struck by a motor cat which did not stop. The victims were:— Leonard Blanchard, a young farm hand, employed by Mr. P. G. Knight, of Tataraimaka, killed. Thomas Jury, a young farm hand employed on the same faiin, (severe chest and leg injuries; condition serious.
-Mr. Jury was found by a passing motorist, who called a doctor, and the injured man was taken to the New Plymouth Hospital. It is not definitely known that a hit-and-run" driver was involved, but the nature of the injuries to the two men, the damage to their motor cycle, and the circumstances generally point to that conclusion. Mr. Jury cannot yet give any account of the occurrence. The motorist who discovered the crashed motor cycle was Mr. Mark hoebuck, of Oka to, 'to whom Mr. Jury, then in a genii-conscious condition, is to have said: "They came straight at us."
