FAMOUS CARVED HOUSE. EXHIBITION OF CURIOS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent J EOTORUA, Thursday. Some yenrfi ago tlie Rotorim Borough Council took over a lease of the famous carved house at Whnkarewarewa, which is regarded as one of the finest examples of carving in the district. Since then, although proposals have been made that the house shall be used to accommodate the .borough museum, nothing has been done with it, and the council has received no return for its t outlay. At last night's meeting of the council a request that the council should transfer the lease of the house to him was made by Mr. F. 0. Peat, of Titirangi, who stated that he proposed, if lie could secure the lease, to transfer his collection of curios at present housed at Titirangi to Whakarewp rewa, which ho considered a more suitable place to put them 011 exhibition. After discussing the proposal, which was sympathetically received, the council referred jt to the reserves committee for consideration.
