TROTTING.

AUCKLAND MEETING. THE PRINCIPAL EVENTS. REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. Satisfactory nominations have been received for the principal events to be run at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting, which openn at Alexandra Park on Saturday week, and some , splendid contests should be provided. Representatives from the South Island will add interest to the respective races, and there is ..plenty of room for a eurprise. With a licld of nine engaged in the Adams Memorial Cup. the Takanini trainer K. J. Smith appears to hold a strong hand with Bonny Assure and King's Warrior. Bonny Azure has been carrying all before her of )at<'. and has a run of eight successive victories to her credit. She has been seen to advantage in either fast or heavy going, and had won over all distances.' At the Hawera- Trotting Club's Easter meeting she registered two splendid performances to win the principal two-mile event each day, on the ! second occasion registering 4.20 3-~> from 48yd« behind. Both wins were gained in effort!ess style, and she impressively dispelled any doubts as to her stamina. Slto lias gone on the right way of late, and should she be the stable elect on the day few will carp to simport anything to bent her. K. -I. Smith's other entry, King's Warrior, has won at his last five appearances, and in this gelding there is the miking of a rcnlly high class performer, Tfe needs only one more success to qualify for the Xew Zealand Trotting Cup. and with three meetings to gain this success thorp should be no reason for his failure to compete at Addiilftton in November. King's Warrior is particularly brilliant in soft going, and he can be relied upon to win at least one rr.ee at the fixture. Southern Competitor. Do Soto is the only Southern representative in this race, and he appeals na likely to eausp the most opposition to Smith's nair. His record this season is an j outstanding one. He has won over all distances in pnrticnlnrlv fast times, and holds a record of 4.27 2-o for two miles. He is a highly-bred gelding, and. should he make the* trii>, will have to be considered. Prince Pedro has not shown any I form over two miles for some time, but is particularly partial to heavy going, and as these conditions are likely to prevail at Knsnm next, week he cannot altogether lv? (I'scarded. Pegaway has been working satisfactorily, and a return to his best form would sea him taking a hand in the decision of the race. However, ho lies pot j shown ."•!•.• real form over two niilei for i sni-io tin'-, and is not likely to figure I "limpet '!"» favourite division. Auto Midline is the baelc marker off Cl>v,ls. but it is j> long time since he showo'l any Fovpi, ;i>>d bin prospects appear anything but bright. At thi>i early juncture "f the counled Bonny Azure and King's Warrior make most appeal. The Open Sprint. » Of the eleven engaged in the Cornwall Handicap, the principal sprint race of the day, six are also nominated in the Adams Memorial Clip, run earlier in the day. However, there is every possibility of the majority lining up again, and there is plenty of material for a splendid contest. Tenedos has not raced for sonic seasons, but previously showed good form over the distance, and some years ago won this event. Ho is now trained by W. Orange at Ashhnrst, and this trainer would not b<? likely to travel so Ear with a bad prospect. R. A. McMillan has throe engaged in Manoeuvre, Prince Pedro and Smooger, and the trio are likely to come in for solid support. In the event of I Prince I'edro being reserved for this race he would have an undoubted chance, as he appears favourably placed off 24yds. Edna Worthy is a particularly speedy mare, and she can be relied upon to set a sound pace nil the way. Mocnst has been showing up prominently in the south of late, and it may be unwise to discard him. It is a long way to bring a horse from Christchurch, and the gelding should be. found racing prominently. Travis is partial to the distance, and will be in the firing line for a long way. His early speed will ensure the chestnut gaining a leading position early, and if there is a surprise in store this pacer is the most likely to effect it. F, J. Smith again has Bonny Azzure and King's Warrior engaged, and the elect will probably start a warm favourite. Both have an abundance of speed, and it is hard to pick one to bring about either pacer's defeat. The Takanini mentor has every chance of completing a winning double with . his elect, while Travis and Mocast are, perhaps, the best I of the others.

THE TROTTERS. ■ FINK FIELD IN - ' STEWARDS'. A well-balanced field of improving trotters, have been entered for the Stewards' Handicap, the better class unhoppled event, to be decided on the opening day of the Auckland meeting. Of the pair on the limit, Elisea would only have to trot steadily all the way to ensure a merry pace being on from the outset. At her last start this mare was responsible for a sound performance in finishing second to Waikato Prince in the Stewards' Handicap at the Waikato meeting. She was only beaten by half a length, and ifr was her best performance to date. Meadow King showed very promising form at the trotting gait last season, but after winning two races was tried with the straps on. His repeated failures of late has brought about a. reversion to his former gait, and it .will be interesting to note how the grey gelding shapes. Dilfashion is always liable to jeopardise his chances by breaking, but he has some useful effort*; to his credit, and may not be without a chance. Captain Bolt has won over the distanfce. and ie an improving trotter. Young Rodney is making a return after a good spell, but he will have to show-improvement to hold his own. in this event.

A Speedy Customer. Polly Pan is one of the speediest trotteici in commission, and it' ehe could be relied on lo do her work without mistake all the way few would be prepared to bark anything to boat her. She lias shown decided improvement in her solidity of late, and as she will be coupled with Waikato Prince the bracket is likely to find biji favour with backers. Manna's Son won well at the Auckland February meeting, and is sure to go a sound race. Arnphi is not without prospects, while Golde'j ISaglo is Very handily placed to extend her winning record. She wae decidedly unlucky at the Inst Auckland meeting, and has a good opportunity to make nmonds here. Ando Patch i.s n particularly solid gelding, and will l>e well suited by the class. Gala Day and Waikato Prince complete the field, and of the pair the latter appeals most. A trio that nre assured of support are Polly J , an, Golden Kngle and Waikato Prince.
