BOXING FIASCO.
" FIGHTING FOR NOTHING." FOORD KNOCKS OUT COOK. ! LONDON, June 7. There were unprecedented incidents at White. City, Cardiff, where George Cook (Australia) was billed to box Ben Foord. The bout was postponed from the middle of the week owing to rain, which prevented the use of the open-air stadium. On Saturday Tain fell again, and limited the attendance to between 400 and 500, and as the boxers were to receive only -a percentage of the gate money it was decided eventually that they should ask the spectators' wishes from the ring. Foord appealed for a postponement, saying: "Have a heart; X cannot box in public, for nothing.". The manager announced that he would prefer to delay the contest, although he was willing for it 'to go on if necessary. Amid subsequent -uproar a voice shouted: "I have come 50 miles, and I ' want to see the match," which accordingly went on. . . . Foord, after severely punishing the Australian, knocked him out in i'-ie ninth round. The "Daily Telegraph's" boxing writer describes the Foord-Cook fight as the biggest financial fiasco in the history of British pugilism. Foord received £34 and Cook £31.
