" The general committee of the New South Wales Rugby Football League decided to defer consideration of New Zealand's request that .New South Wales invite New Zealand to send a team next season until the return of the English League team from New Zealand. Mr. P. Anderton, one of the managers of. the English team, offered to supply a report to the League on the standard of New Zealand play, and thia offer was accepted. f
AFFAIRS OF REFEREES. At the meeting of the Auckland -RugbyLeague Referees' Association last evening, Mr. L. E. Bull presiding, the appointments reported an all-round improvement compared with the corresponding period last season. Attention wae called to the need for referees being properly uniformed with the latest sweaters, supplied. On hearing the referee, ■ a club complaint had been found to be groundless.- ■', The association decided to purchase special whistles for the use of referees on No. 2 ground at Carlaw Park owing to the confusion sometimes caused to players on both grounds when similar sounding whistles were in use. The chairman ruled that it was the duty of both line umpires when a goal kick was taken to stand behind the goal posts, each, to give an immediate signal. A member said that only one touch judge went behind the goal posts in England, ,and it was decided to refer the point to the. New Zealand Referees' Association for "report. Arising from an investigated incident, it was resolved to advise the junior management, with a copy to be sent to the senior board, that games could be called off if there was any interference by club or league officials or spectators, as the referee was in sole charge. Mr. G. Barnhill, of Devonport, was balloted for and elected a qualified member of the association. '
