UNIVERSITY SURPRISE. GRAMMAR'S BIG SCORE. PAPATOETOE, BEATS SOMERVILLE. ■ The championship cup hockey matches on Saturday created more than usual interest, as it was generally considered that a better guide would be given to the prospective champions. Calculations were upset at Remuera, where St. Luke's met their first defeat of the season, University sending up the tally of eix goals to four of their rivals. On the same area a scrappy game of a goal apiece provided a championship point for Mount Eden and Y.M.C.A. At Papatoetoe .there was great excitement, for the suburbanites' eleven defeated Somerville by three goals to one and took second place on the championship ladder. Grammar Old Boys romped away from a weakened Training College team

Y.M.C.A. V. MOUNT EDEN. Y.M.C.A. rushed through to Mount Eden's circle, but could only force an unsuccessful corner. Play quickly changed ends and from a forward rush Morgan secured in the circle and found the net. J. Horspool was next seen in a couple of nice runs down the right, Surman proving too strong on defence.
