Although a larger crowd than ever gathered at Epsom the exodus from London is becoming later every year. During the morning the roads were little busier than normal. Heavy clouds and a chilly wind made it an overcoat Derby.

There were fewer gipsies seen on the Downs. They are fast disappearing and declare that the Derby is becoming more select every year. Race Won in Record Time. The after lunch crowd is believed to have been a record. It stretched in a solid mass from Tattenham Corner to the grandstand. The Derby was a magnificent race. Mahmoud's time was a record. His jockey, Charlie Smirke, does not know tlie meaning of nerves and displayed superb coolness and judgment. He did not attempt to force the pace. Carioca was early away and led at the lialf-mile from Midstream and Pay Up. Thankerton stole a lead down the hill from. Bala Hissar and Pay Up, and was three lengths ahead into the straight, but was unable to stay. Malimoud shot up and Taj Akbar gallantly attempted to overhaul his stable companion but Malimoud won easily. The crowd was in a frenzy of excitement and cheered the Aga Khan as he led in his beautiful grey horse, which is the third of that colour to win the Derby. The Aga Khan was overcome with delight and.said that he had realised his ambition to win the Derby three times. His previous two winners were Blenheim in 1030, and Bahrain last year. A British official wireless message earlier stated that the Aga Khan s colt Taj Akbar remained favourite before the race. Lord Astor's Pay Up, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas, was next. In the absence of further rain the course at Epsom would be firm, but in the opinion of experts not too hard for horses in good condition. It was considered to be the most open Derby for several years. Although many owners were hopeful, few seemed to be confident.

SPEEDY DISPATCH. SIX SECONDS TO AUSTRALIA. British Official Wireless. (Received 1 p.m.) RUGBY, May 27. Two seconds after the Derby winner had passed the post the result had been transmitted by Cables and Wireless, Limited, to New York, Buenos Ayres and Capetown. It was known in Australia within six seconds.
