THE ANNUAL MEETING GOOD PROGRESS RECORDED. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Satisfaction with the progress made during the past 12 months was expressed by a fair attendance at the 08th annual meeting of the Auckland Institute and Museum last evening. The annual report has been published in the "Star." In the absence abroad of tlie retiring president, Mr. A. T. Pycroft, Mr. A. G. Luiin, a retiring vice-president, presided. Sir Carrick Robertson was elected to fill the office of president for the year, and Sir Cecil Leys, Mr. A. T. Pycroft and Professor H. W. Segar were elected vice-presidents.. Messrs. J. C. Entrican, C. R. Ford, A. H. Johnstone and A. G. Lunn were re-elected members of the council. Dr. H. A. Cliatfield has been nominated to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the council caused by the death of Mr. H. E. Vaile. This will be confirmed at the next of the council. The' congratulations of the meeting were extended to Mr. E. Jones, of the Auckland Training College, for his splendid work among the school children visiting the Museum. A special vote of thanks to Mr. A. T. Pycroft for his work for the Museum was carried by acclamation. At the conclusion of the formal business Mr. R. A. Fa 11a, of the Museum's scientific staff, showed two educational films prepared under the auspices of the Museum. The first, which was made within ten miles of Auckland, was entitled, "In the Haunts of the Water Fowl," while the second film dealt with shipping about the port of Auckland, and showed some interesting sidelights on life on the British sailing ship Joseph Conrad, which visited Auckland a few months ago. Mr. Falla mentioned the extra work that was now possible in this department through the assistance of the recent Cargenie grant of £10,000. School Service Work. It was announced at a council meeting in the afternoon that arrangements had been made for the resumption of some of the school service work, as carried out by Mr. E. G. Jones last year.' By arrangement with the principal of the Teachers' Training College, Mr. J). M. Rae, two selected students would attend at the Museum three days a week during the second term and would take lessons and demonstrations. The attendance at the Museum to date for this year was 70,205, there having been 27,339 visitors in the past month, or p. weekly average attendance .of GS3S.
