NOT SO BUSY. WOOLWORTKS VERY FIRM. J After a busy period yesterday afternooi business on the Auckland Stock Exchangt opened rather quietly tins morning, ant only a small list of sales was recorded al the tirst call. Bidding, however, was steady in most sections, though banking shares were neglectcd Sew Zealand* were steady, with quotations from £2 5/ 9 to £2 G/. There was a little more interest in insurances, and Queenslands had a transaction at £3, compared with £2 15/ in January. There were still buyers in at £2 19/, but sellers withdrew. New Zcalands were in request at £3 1/9 and Nationals at 17/6. The Woolworth group was again very firm. New Zealands were quoted between £7 18/ and £S. t>ydneys and West Australian, now quoted ex lights, were from £4 18/ to £4 19/6 for the former and £4 10/ to £4 10/ for the latter. Government stocks were steady, and the '49's were available at £101 10/ and the '55's at £100 10/. Bycroft's shares returned to the list, with buyers at £2 7/ and sellers £2 10/. Quiet Noon Call. Business was particularly quiet at nooiij only three sales being put through. Farmers' Trading were steady and Government stock was firm. In the banking section Commercials had buyers at 19/2 and sellers Id above. Nationals of Australasia were quoted ex dividend by holders at £15 6/. For New Zealands buyers came in at £2 5/3. Brewery shares continued in keen demand, buyers of New Zealands raising their limits to the level of the morning sale. Tooth's were quoted at £2 11/3 and £2 12/3. Dunlops were easier, with sellers down to 17/9 and no buyers. Gear Meat attracted an inquiry at 10/3. A further reduction of (3d was made by holders of Wilsons Cements, following a buyer's quotation at £2 5/9. Mining shares were generally dull. For Mount Lyell the range was between £1 4/1 and £1 4/8.
