FIRE BOARD.
AUCKLAND PRECAUTIONS. PAST MONTH'S ACTIVITY. During the past month 65 calls were received by the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board, it was reported at to-day s meeting. This total comprised 28 actual fires, 21 false alarms, nine chimney fires, six crass or rubbish fires and one call from" outside the board's area. Of the 21 false alarms 11 were malicious. About 1600 fire plugs had been inspected and additions had been effected to various water mains. An application that a fire alarm be installed in Sarawai Street and/or Railway Terrace, Newmarket, was received from the Newmarket Borough Council. It was decided to remove the box in Parnell Road, opposite the Institute for the Blind, two chains to a position at the corner of Sarawai Street and Manukau Road. A report regarding arrangements for firemen attending picture theatres was adopted. It was decided to charge the theatres a flat rate of 30/ a week, of which 27/6 would be given the fireman. The balance of 2/6, or £6 10/ a theatre a year, would be used for defraying cost of uniforms and collection expenses. The hoard decided to advise the Auck- ; land City Council that no reduction in its levy was possible, and that matters ' of revaluation of boroughs were outside S the province of the board.
