NEW YORK BERTH.
£48,000 A YEAR RENT. ; PREPARING FOR QUEEN MARY. NEW YORK, March 27. Workmen were to-day putting the finishing touches to "Pier Ninety," where the Queen Mary will be berthed when she arrives at New York for the first time in June. This berthing station is nearly five miles upstream from the Statue of Liberty, and passengers will disembark near the principal hotels, shops and j theatres. Before their ship docks, they 1 will pass all the city's principal sky--1 scrapers. I The pier is one of three which have been under construction since 1931, and will cost the city £4,000,000. One is used by the French liner Normandie, and the third, still incomplete, will be leased to the Italian line. The rent or the Cunard pier will be £48,000 a year. I The structure of steel sembles an enormous hangar. ! The ground floor will be u freight; the first, second and . passengers.
