ON SEPTEMBER \n : GENERAL OPERATION. BILL IN UPPER HOUSE. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. September 1 is to bo the date on which 40-hour week will come int, o operation. This was made clear in an amendment to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill which Wa3 reported by the Labour Bills Committee of the Legislative Council this afternoon The amendment carries into effect the undertaking given in the House of Representatives by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, ami its object is to ensure that that provj. sion and a similar provision in the Shops and Offices Amendment and Factories Amendment Bills will come into effect on a common date.
