CAULIFLOWER DEARER. APPLES SLOW OF SALE. GOOD DEMAND FOR GRAPES. The demand for all varieties of apples at the city markets to-day was rather slow, and outdoor tomatoes also eased in value. The demand for tree tomatoes and hothouse grapes has improved. Lemons and good quality oranges met with a very, fair sale, but supplies of cape gooseberries will soon be exhausted. Hothouse tomatoes are coming forward iii large quantities and are selling freely at late rates. Passion fruit arc realising Koocl prices, as the supply is getting very short. Prices paid to-day were: — Apples: Delicious, 2/6 to 5/0 per case; Bailarat, 3/6 to 4/6; Granny Smith, 4/ to 7/6; Jonathan, 3/ to 5/6: Statesman, 4/ to 5/; Stunner, 4/ to 4/6; Winesap, 5/ to 6/6; windfalls and others, 1/6 to 2/6. Quotations are:— Beet, 3d to 9d per dozen; celery, cooking, 4d to 9d per bundle; dessert, 1/ to 2/3; carrots, 4d to 9d per dozen; cauliflowers, 7/ to 10/6 per sack; on benches, 1/ to 5/6 per dozen; cabbages, 4/ to 9/6 per sack; 011 benches, 1/6 to 3/6 per dozen; French beans, 4/ to 10/ per bag; green peas, 5/ to 16,/; kumaras, 2/ to 5/; leeks. Id to 2(1 per bundle; lettuce, 1/6 to 5/9 per ease; marrows. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium and the demand was very fair. The prices paid remain unaltered. Poor demand for laying birds and good demand for young drakes. Selling rates were as follow:-— Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/9 to 4/6 each; not prime, 1/6 up; light breeds, prime, 1/9 to 3/; not prime, 1/3 up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/ to 3/; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/. Fat liens: Heavy breeds, 2/ to 2/6; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best. 3/ to 5/; smaller, 1/6 up; light breeds, best, 3/ to 5/; smaller, 1/6 up. Drakes: Young, prime, 2/6 to 3/6; smaller, 1/6 up; old, 1/6 to 2/6. Ducks: Young, 2/0 to 3/6; old, 1/0 to 2/6. Turkeys: Hens, 3/ to 5/; gobblers, 5/ to 12/. Eggs and Butter. Prices for lien and duck .CRgs show 110 difference 011 last week's quotations. Prices were:—Hen eggs: A grade, 2/4% per dozen; B grade, I/IOV2: C grade, 1/7%. Duck eggs: A grade, 1/10% per dozen; B grade, 1/7%; G grade, 1/5%. Farmers' butter, 10% d to ll%d per lb.
