Two novice jumpers provided a bit of excitement with their schooling efforts. Wharemana and Night Wind started off on a round over the steeplechase fences. They shifted about going to the first brush along the back, where both ran off in determined fashion, flattening the inside wing. G. Ridgway, the rider of Wharemana. bruised his right shoulder and received a knock on the right side of his face. R. W. Wateon, the rider of Night Wind, escaped without injury. Night Wind was later mounted by N. Tregonning and was tried again. He blundered badly at the first fence, the brush at the top of the straight. The lad received a shaking, but later gave the horse another trial. He jumped the first very well, scrambled over the first of the double, but ran off at the second leg. though he cleared it with a short run afterwards. It was not a good exhibition.
