RUGBY FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND CONTROL OF GAME 2000 PLAYERS IN UNION. ISLAND SELECTOR NOMINATED. Mr. Arthur Tilly announced at last night's meeting of the Auckland Rugby Football Union that 12S teams, representing, with emergencies, over 2000 players, would be engaged in next Saturday's matches in Auckland, exclusive of secondary school competitions. Mr. George Nicholson, a member of the original All Blacks and a former New Zealand selector, was nominated as one of the North Island representatives on the All Black selection committee. Mr. R. E. Galbraith was appointed to assist the selector, Mr. J. 11. M. Muir, in the choicc of B representative teams. It was decided that the successful coaches' rally held last season should be repeated this season, earlier in the year, and, 011 the suggestion of Mr. Galbraith, it was agreed that Mr. V. R. Meredith, manager of the All Blacks, should be invited to address the coaches 011- the subject of lessons learned on the tour. The meeting will be held in the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's clubrooms on a date to be arranged. An invitation from Thames for any Auckland senior team to visit there, and for a match, Auckland v. Thames, to be played at Thames, was referred to the match committee. The chairman, Mr. Arthur Baker, was appointed to discuss with the junior management board the issues - raised by the' board's protest against alleged intervention by members of the management committee in the affairs of its emergency committee. Regradings:—A- M. King, Grammar Old Boys, senior to first junior; 1). Martin, College Rifles, senior to first junior. Reinstatements:—'W. V. Fredatovich, J. Harris, W. A. Absohun, R.'Dick, E. F. McNeil. . ; . There was a discussion about playing t, senior match every Saturday at the Western Springs Stadium. The chairman pointed out that next year, when the Showgrounds would again be available, the union would be committed to a match there, in addition to two at Eden. Park and one at Sturges Park, Otahuhu,. and that, therefore,' it would hardly be worth while starting matches at the Stadium this season if the arrangement could not bp continued next year. Mr. E. V. Sutherland: Why not let next vear look after itself. . . ' Mr R Galbraith expressed the opinion that 'if senior matches were played regularly at Western Springs, a large section of the public would appreciate it. The chairman said he had been informed that the Showgrounds would be available for Rugby in August next. . It was decided' to take no action m the meantime. _ , xr rt «r A letter was received from the JNew Zealand. Union stating that, following the decision at the annual meeting m favour of the three-fronted scrummage, it was considered desirable to have uniformity in this matter, and asking, therefore, that the union instruct its sub-unions and clubs to respect the annual meeting s decision. It was agreed that this should be 'l° n ®- Two referees who had games at Walker Park, Point Chevalier, last Saturday reported, through Mr. J. Sweeney, that throughout their matches they had been subjected to heckling and barracking by nlavers of another code. . ~ , The attention of oiiicials of the code in question is to be drawn to the complaint.
