EIGHT-OAR STANDARD. FOSTERING INTER-CLUB CREWS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A suggestion to do away with inter-pro-vincial eiglit-oared rowing in New Zealand and to substitute inter-club championship eights was discussed at a meeting of the Wellington Rowing Association. Wellington Rowing Club, which originated the proposal, wrote that since the introduction of iuterprbvinciiil rowing the standard had dropped. "The whole essence of successful rowing is the fostering of club eights," stated tho letter. "All other countries have championship eights for club crews, .and more, iqtcrost is..added and a higher •aggrcl of" coniijfnati'on is acquired.' The letter added that the representative crew should be the champion eight of New Zealand, and not. as on previous occasions, a selection of men chosen from all over the Dominion expected to compete against hi"lilv'-traincd combinations from other countries, and accustomed to shorter C °Scveral members said they thought the move a good one, and that there would be an improvement in.the standard of rowing if it were adopted.
