LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND CONTROL BOARD. MAB.ISTS TO MEET NEWTON. PROTEST BY CITY DISMISSED. At tiie meeting last evening of the control board ot tiie Auckland Kuguy League, Mr. G. Urcy CainpueJl presiding, the contest between Alarist Uld ifoys and A em-ton Rangers was given pride of place, preceded by the meeting between Mount Albert and Dov.onport. Alanukau and Richmond will provide the early game on Ao. 2 ground and L'uy Kovers will contend with J'onsonuy at 3 p.m.

J. he .New Zealand .League intimated that the annual meeting ot delegates decided to emorce the Jatesi rules universally, out it was decided to continue witH me existing replacement rule pending the receipt of official advice from the council.

It was resolved to adopt the policy of a sole selector tor this season, as recommended by the majority of the ciuos, which are to be invited to suunm nominations tor next meeting.

A protest by City Hovers that their match against Alarist, won by the latter, 12—11, on .No. 2 ground wa.s played six minutes over time,- was supported by Mv. George Hunt (chairman o<. the club,) and Mr. ii. K. Asher (secretary ). Mr. Hunt said he observed that the game started before that on No. 1 ground and finished six minutes after. Air. Asher said he tuned the match by an ordinary watch and made the second spell start two minutes after the time given on the official sheets. He allowed foul , minutes off for casualties in the second spell. The timekeeper, Mr. T. Hill, said the second half was two minutes and a half late being restarted. The match time was recorded by a stop watch and the bell was rung just on time when the ball was made dead with tlie last try by Marist. It was three minutes before the line umpire signalled "no goal" from the kick, and he thought Mr. Asher must have timed the game's termination at that signal. Judging that the referee, Mr. Rogers, had not hoard the bell, it was then tingled lor that reason. Mr. Rogers later said lie had not heard the bell when the try wa.s scored. The protest was not upheld, but the protest fee was ordered to be refunded. Mr. Hunt thanked the board for its good hearing, and the chairman said the board's greatest desire was to be fair in such matters.

The Referees' Association advised that its appointee, suggested as third member on the appointments board, was Mr, Tj. ]£. Bull, whose appointment was confinned.

Arising out of a complaint from the Green Lane Club, it was ruled that the transfer of G. Kerr to Devonport was in order, and in the ease of E. J'. Grinders (Xewton), the matter was referred back to the junior board. Kerr's transfer was held to be subject lo the payment by Devonport of the £2 transfer fee.

This junior management committee submitted an application from the Glenora Club for a senior match in the district. Consideration was deferred until similar fixtures were dealt with.
