GAS FUMES.
BORE ON N.S.W. RACECOURSE. (Received 0.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A party of Sydney business men returned t« the city by aeroplane yesterday from an inspection of a bore .it Grafton racecourse. The bore was originally sunk to a depth of 3700 feet for the purpose of locating artesian water, but when the drill broke on hard rock the site was abandoned. Quito recently gas fumes were detected rising from the bore hole. The gas was impounded and when a light was applied a brilliant flame shot many feet into the air. The estimated pressure of the gas was about 15001b to the square inch.
